Letting Go of True Belief
“David died as separate from his parents as the day they dropped him off in the city as a teenager. Moral insistence, so ingrained in them, polluted every neuron of their brains. They created in their minds and hearts hymns of ritualized brutality. Having a fling with “messiahood” will do that to you. Peter and Nora Pryn imagined only a fiery finish for their son and appeared to look forward to it.”

What Silence Will Not Bury
Vicary gripped Att’s bare arm and plunged her fingernails into his flesh. His first inclination was pull away, but he decided against it. Her accepted her nails a first-order punishment for what he was thinking: How fast must two people run toward someone already dead?
Att had lagged behind Vicary like a willful child determined not to keep the pace. Through clenched teeth, she had encouraged him to keep up. At one point, she had stopped and waited for him. She stood and stared and resented that she served as his conscience.
